With countless makes and models of lift chairs (aka power recliners) available, it can be difficult to decide which one is right for you. Below are some tips that hopefully you’ll find helpful!

Single vs. Double Motor. This factor primarily affects how much control you have over the chair. Lift chairs with a single motor use that one motor to control all movement of the chair, both backrest and footrest. In comparison, chairs with a dual or double motor have one motor controlling the backrest and another the footrest. This means that you can adjust the backrest and footrest separately. This is handy, for example, if you want to have your feet up but still remain in a sitting position. If you want more control over the position of the chair, you may want to consider one with a dual motor.

Size of Chair Itself. How much space to you have in your home? Where will you be putting your new chair? Lift chairs come in various sizes. In fact, some models have a medium or large option. Make sure you know how much space you have for the chair itself. Not only that, but what’s your comfort level? Maybe you prefer a smaller chair that you fit into just right. Or perhaps a larger charge that envelops you in a big hug? The possibilities are endless.

Material & Coverings. There are two main factors here: how simple do you want cleaning to be and the feel of the material itself. Leather type of material is often a quick wipe-down, where as more fabric-like material often soaks up spills and messes. However, plush materials can be more comfortably and homey.

Distance from Wall. One thing to note is that you must be mindful of how far the chair needs to be away from the wall so you have room to fully recline when using your chair. Make sure you have enough space and you won’t bump into anything!

Padding. Some chairs have a fully padded chaise while others do not. If you have a bad back or expect to sit for long periods of time you’ll want to make sure that your chair has enough padding. Also, to some chairs we will be able to add extra padding or switch it, to others we will not.
